Diesel Heater Fuel Pump FAQ
My pump ticks but no fuel comes through. What's wrong?
Nine times out of ten, it's air in the line — not a dead pump. A new pump, or one that's run dry, needs priming to push the air out. Run the heater's prime function (or let it cycle), then check every fitting for a loose connection sucking in air. If it primes but dies after a minute, check for a kinked line or a clogged pick-up before blaming the pump.
Where should I mount the pump, and how far from the heater?
Mount it 2–3 feet (60–100cm) from the heater — not closer. Too close raises fuel pressure and causes rough burning, carbon, and smoke. Keep it away from the exhaust and any heat source, and within reach of the wiring harness. For a full step-by-step, see our diesel heater installation guide.
Which way does the pump face?
Mount it on an incline with the outlet (heater side) higher than the inlet — around 15° to 35° up. The fuel line should slope downhill from the tank to the pump, then uphill from the pump to the heater. This lets air bubbles travel up and out instead of pooling and blocking flow.
Will this fit my Webasto or Eberspächer/Espar?
